Village of DENZIL
The Village of Denzil is located in a valley approximately 17 miles east of the Alberta border on Highway 31, and 140 miles due west of Saskatoon.
Denzil began as a settlement area after the Canadian Pacific Railways were laid in 1909. Although nobody is completely sure of how Denzil got is name, there are two favorable versions as to how the town was named. The first is that the town was named after Lord Denzil, a CPR official. The other version is that one of the original Norwegian pioneers, Mr. A. F. Olsen, entertained two railway officials for dinner. The village was then named after Mr. Olsen's eldest son, in appreciation of his hospitality. The son's name was Ansel, but due to Mr. Olsen's Scandinavian accent, or a misinterpretation at the office, the name was pronounced "Denzil".
When the village was incorporated in 1911 it had a population of almost one hundred people. Since then the population has fluctuated mildly and Denzil now has a population of approx. 142 people.
